Nel 1871, il Monumento Niederwald fu eretto secondo un progetto di Johannes Schilling e Karl Weisbach. Il monumento fu completato nel 1883. Raggiunge un'altezza totale di 38 metri e sulla sommità del monumento si trova una statua di Germania alta 10,5 metri, che simboleggia la custodia sul Reno.
