È un magnifico edificio costruito nel 1665, come residenza privata di Sir John Denham. In stile Palladiano, fu poi venduto al conte di Burlington, da cui prese il nome.
Ora ospita la Royal Academy of Arts e sede di diverse fondazioni culturali, come la Fondazione Geologica, quella Astronomica e quella degli Antiquari.
Oltre alla sua importante collezione permanente, in questo museo organizzano diverse mostre di arte contemporanea e temporanee, che sono sempre di grande interesse.
