De begraafplaats van Ripoll werd door de architect Antoni Coll Fort ontworpen in 1903. Dit was een breuk met de middeleeuwse traditie waar eerder het mortuarium veld binnen het stedelijk weefsel werd geplaatst, een continuïteit van de ruimte gereserveerd voor de levenden met die van de doden.
