Louth is een dorp in het hart van County Louth, Ierland. Het ligt ongeveer 11 km ten zuidwesten van de stad Dundalk, 10,9 km van de naburige stad Ardee. Het dorp ligt ongeveer 15 km ten zuidoosten van de stad Carrickmacross in County Monaghan. Het dorp gaf zijn naam aan het graafschap.
Het dorp is vernoemd naar Lugh, een god van de oude Ieren, en was mogelijk ooit de locatie van een heiligdom gewijd aan de god. Historisch gezien werd de plaatsnaam op verschillende manieren gespeld, zoals; "Lughmhagh", "Lughmhadh" en "Lughbhadh". De eerste wordt verondersteld "Lugh's vlakte" of "Lugh's veld" te betekenen, maar de betekenis van de andere twee is onduidelijk. Lú is de moderne vereenvoudigde spelling.
