De zendtoren Petersberg werd in 1963 tot 1965 door de Deutsche Post op de Petersberg bij Halle naast de bestaande richtfunktoren gebouwd.
Reden voor de bouw was de uitbreiding en verbetering van de overdracht van de richtfunkverbinding Zuidwestring. Sinds de overname door de Deutsche Bundespost, later Deutsche Telekom en daarna Deutsche Funkturm, wordt de zendtoren gebruikt voor de verspreiding van meerdere radio-uitzendingen voor het grootstedelijk gebied Halle. De zenderoperator is Media Broadcast. Over het algemeen wordt de locatie van de zendtoren ook wel Halle genoemd.
