La place Zanthier est l'une des premières étapes du sentier Heinrich-Heine d'Ilsenburg au Brocken. Un monument en l'honneur du forestier Hans Dietrich von Zanthier se trouve dans une clairière. C'était l'un des fondateurs de la gestion moderne des forêts et il a ouvert la première école de foresterie en Allemagne vers l'année 1764 à Ilsenburg. Il y a aussi un petit refuge sur la place Zanthier. Quiconque doit faire une pause ici ferait mieux de ne pas commencer le sentier vers le sommet du Brocken.
