In de 13de eeuw stond hier een kasteel dat dienst deed als buitenverblijf voor de abten van de Gentse Sint-Baafsabdij. De Tsjechische prins-bisschop Ferdinand von Lobkowitz voegde er eind 18de eeuw paardenstallen, twee oranjerieën en een dure collectie exotische planten aan toe. Charles Vuylsteke richtte rond 1870 het classicistische kasteel in als tuinbouwbedrijf en gaf zo het startschot voor de azalea- en begoniateelt in Lochristi. Het kasteel en het park zijn enkel in groep te bezoeken.
