Es ist ein prächtiges Gebäude, das 1665 als private Residenz von Sir John Denham erbaut wurde. Im palladianischen Stil, wurde es später an den Grafen von Burlington verkauft, von dem es seinen Namen erhielt.
Jetzt beherbergt es die Royal Academy of Arts und ist Sitz verschiedener kultureller Stiftungen, wie der Geological Foundation, der Astronomical Foundation oder der Antiquaries Foundation.
Neben seiner bedeutenden ständigen Sammlung organisiert dieses Museum verschiedene temporäre und zeitgenössische Kunstausstellungen, die immer von großem Interesse sind.
