Deze kerk werd in de 15de eeuw buiten de muren van Jerez gebouwd. Ze werd gebouwd op de plaats waar in tijden van de herovering al een hermitage met dezelfde naam was gebouwd, en vormde zo de kiem van de nu populaire wijk Santiago.
Het is een gotisch gebouw waaraan de top van de toren en het belfort in barokstijl zijn toegevoegd, evenals de vierkante "Capilla del Sagrario".
De kerk heeft drie gotische deuren. Het altaar heeft een baldakijn van José Gallegos Arnosa uit Jerez.
Tijdens de restauratie in de 21e eeuw werden ernstige structurele gebreken in de kerk ontdekt, waardoor de kerk onmiddellijk werd gesloten. In 2016 werd de kerk heropend.
