Van de drie molens die ooit in Aalbeke stonden, blijft er maar eentje over, maar die is dan ook heel speciaal: volgens sommige experts dateert hij uit 1717 en is hij met zijn bijna 300 jaar de oudste van West-Vlaanderen. Sinds 1944 is hij beschermd als monument.
De Hoogmolen is een standaard- of staakmolen. Dat wil zeggen dat de molenkast letterlijk op een 60 à 80 centimeter dikke staak rust en in zijn geheel naar de wind gedraaid wordt. In het geval van de Hoogmolen zit die staak vast in een gesloten stenen voet. De wieken zijn 24 meter lang.
Precies 250 jaar, van 1717 tot 1967 maalt de Hoogmolen graan. De stad Kortrijk koopt de site in 1980 en in 1994-1995 wordt de molen gerestaureerd en weer maalvaardig gemaakt.
Je kan de molen bezoeken, maar op dit moment wordt hij gerestaureerd. In de loop van 2015 gaat hij weer open.
