El Teatre Cómico era un antic teatre de fusta construït a principis del segle XIX. Comprat l'any 1874 per l'empresari Manuel García Lovera, propietari del Teatro de Variedades. Va rebatejar el teatre Teatre Principal. Va ser pintat per José Serrano Bermúdez i decorat pel pintor del Saló Liceo del Círculo de la Amistad, José María Rodríguez Losada, i contenia 21 lògies .
El teatre va ser afectat per un terrible incendi el 17 de juliol de 1892. En virtut de les ordenances municipals de 1888 , no es va poder construir un nou Teatre al mateix lloc.
Va ser totalment reconstruït un segle més tard, a finals del segle XX, per servir d'espai cultural, espai expositiu i seu temporal del Centre Filharmònic Eduardo Lucena. Així es conserva la façana eclèctica , amb quatre obertures en cadascuna de les dues plantes existents.
