Teatro Cómico var et gammelt træteater bygget i begyndelsen af det 19. århundrede. I 1874 blev det erhvervet af forretningsmanden Manuel García Lovera, ejer af Teatro de Variedades. Han omdøbte teatret til Teatro Principal. Det blev malet af José Serrano Bermúdez og dekoreret af maleren fra Salón Liceo del Círculo de la Amistad, José María Rodríguez Losada, og indeholdt 21 loger.
Teatret blev den 17. juli 1892 ramt af en forfærdelig brand. Ifølge de kommunale forordninger fra 1888 kunne der ikke bygges et nyt teater på samme sted.
Det blev en helhed senere, i slutningen af det 20. århundrede, fuldstændig ombygget til at fungere som et kulturelt rum, udstillingsrum og midlertidig sæde for Eduardo Lucena Philharmonic Center. Her blev den eklektiske facade bevaret, med fire åbninger på hver af de to eksisterende etager.
