Entlang des Enkelenberg-Wegs kann man im Mai und Juni den Duft des Gewöhnlichen Holunder wahrnehmen. In dieser Zeit steht die Pflanze in Blüte. Das Holz des gewöhnlichen Holunders ist weich, splittert jedoch nicht. Deshalb war es in der Vergangenheit sehr beliebt, kleine Gebrauchsgegenstände daraus herzustellen. Die Blüten werden in Pfannkuchen verwendet. Die nordamerikanischen Indianer frittieren die Blüten ebenfalls. Außerdem kann man aus den Blüten Sirup herstellen. Dieser wird hauptsächlich in England produziert und ist bekannt als Elderflower Cordial. In Schweden ist er als Fläderblomssaft bekannt. Die getrockneten Blüten können das ganze Jahr über verwendet werden, um Tee zuzubereiten.
