Along the Enkelenberg path you can sniff the scent of the Common Elder in May and June. In that period, the plant is in bloom. The wood of the common elderberry is soft, but does not splinter. Therefore, in the past it was very popular to make small utensils from it. The blossom is used in pancakes. The North American Indians still fry the blossom. In addition, one can make syrup from the blossom. This is mainly produced in England and is known as Elderflower Cordial. In Sweden it is known as Fläderblomssaft. The dried blossom can be used all year round to make tea.
