Das Fort Eben-Emael ist nach wie vor ein Militärgelände. Es liegt am Albertkanal und war ein wichtiger strategischer Punkt der belgischen Verteidigung im Osten. Die Hauptaufgabe des Forts bestand darin, die Überquerung des Albertkanals und der Maas zu verhindern. Auch das sogenannte "Loch von Visé" südlich des Forts wurde verteidigt. Heute werden im Fort nicht nur Besuche organisiert, sondern wir finden dort auch ein spezialisiertes Museum mit Materialien, Uniformen, Waffen usw. aus dem Jahr 1940. Es kann als das Museum der Schlacht am Albertkanal am 10. und 11. Mai 1940 betrachtet werden, bei der mehr als 700 belgische Soldaten ums Leben kamen.
