In den Königlichen Museen der Schönen Künste hängt Brüssel morgens von Joseph Stevens, aus dem Jahr 1848. Belgien war noch keine 2 Dekaden alt, aber es war amroe trumpf. Zahlreiche Plagen hatten das Land heimgesucht, und überall gab es Bettler, Obdachlose und Räuberbanden. Das Gemälde zeigt eine Meute abgemagerter Hunde und Obdachloser im ersten Sonnenlicht. Der Ort, an dem dieses Bild von Joseph Stevens wahrgenommen wurde, lag im europäischen Viertel, damals noch ein Gebiet von Armut und Leid.
