Saint-Omer liegt an der Grenze zwischen Französisch-Flandern und Artois, am Fluss Aa und dem Kanal von Neuffossé. St-Omer hat drei wichtige Sehenswürdigkeiten.
Die Basilika Unserer Lieben Frau, ursprünglich eine bescheidene Kapelle, wurde zur Kollegialkirche und ist jetzt eine Kathedrale.
Das Sandelin-Museum war früher eine Jesuitenkapelle und stammt aus dem Jahr 1777. Es enthält wunderschöne Gemälde unter anderem von Brueghel und eine Sammlung von Porzellan.
Für einen Spaziergang in einem Park solltest du im Jardin Public sein. Dieser Park liegt am Rand der Stadt und ist 10 Hektar groß. Es wurden französische und englische Gärten angelegt. Auch am Rand der Stadt liegt die Ruine des St-Berten-Abteiklosters.
