Saint-Omer is located on the border between French Flanders and Artois, situated by the river Aa and the Neuffossé Canal. St-Omer has three main attractions.
The Basilica of Our Lady, originally a modest chapel, became a collegiate church and is now a cathedral.
The Sandelin Museum was formerly a Jesuit chapel and dates back to 1777. It contains beautiful paintings by, among others, Brueghel and a collection of porcelain.
For a walk in a park, you should visit the Jardin Public. This park is located on the edge of the city and is 10 hectares large. There are French and English gardens laid out. Also on the outskirts of the city lies the ruin of St. Bertin Abbey.
