Saint-Omer se encuentra en la frontera entre Flandes francés y Artois, situado a orillas del río Aa y el canal de Neuffossé. St-Omer cuenta con tres importantes lugares de interés.
La Basílica de Nuestra Señora, originalmente una modesta capilla, se convirtió en iglesia colegial y ahora es una catedral.
El Museo Sandelin solía ser una capilla de jesuitas y data de 1777. Contiene hermosas pinturas de, entre otros, Brueghel y una colección de porcelana.
Para un paseo en un parque, debes ir al Jardin Public. Este parque está ubicado en las afueras de la ciudad y tiene 10 hectáreas de tamaño. Se han creado jardines franceses e ingleses. También en las afueras de la ciudad se encuentra la ruina de la abadía de St-Berten.
