Saint-Omer ligger ved grænsen mellem fransk Flandern og Artois, beliggende ved floden Aa og Neuffossé-kanalen. St-Omer har tre vigtige seværdigheder.
O-L-Virgin-basilikaen, oprindeligt en beskeden kapel, blev en collegialkirke og er nu en katedral.
Sandelinmuseet var tidligere en jesuitkirke og stammer fra 1777. Det indeholder smukke malerier af bl.a. Brueghel og en samling af porcelæn.
For en gåtur i en park skal du tage til Jardin Public. Denne park ligger i udkanten af byen og er 10 hektar stor. Der er anlagt franske og engelske haver. Også i udkanten af byen ligger ruinen af St-Berten-klosteret.
