Saint-Omer se situe à la frontière entre la Flandre française et l'Artois, situé au bord de la rivière Aa et du Canal de Neuffossé. St-Omer compte trois attractions importantes.
La basilique Notre-Dame, à l'origine une modeste chapelle, est devenue une église collégiale et est maintenant une cathédrale.
Le musée Sandelin était autrefois une chapelle jésuite et date de 1777. Il contient de magnifiques peintures de, entre autres, Brueghel et une collection de porcelaines.
Pour une promenade dans un parc, il faut aller au Jardin Public. Ce parc est situé en périphérie de la ville et s'étend sur 10 hectares. Des jardins français et anglais y ont été aménagés. Également en périphérie de la ville se trouve la ruine de l'abbaye de St-Bertin.
