Saint-Omer si trova al confine tra la Flandria francese e l'Artois, lungo il fiume Aa e il Canale di Neuffossé. St-Omer conta tre importanti attrazioni.
La basilica di Nostra Signora, originariamente una modesta cappella, divenne una chiesa collegiata ed è ora una cattedrale.
Il museo Sandelin era in precedenza una cappella dei gesuiti e risale al 1777. Contiene bellissimi dipinti di artisti come Brueghel e una collezione di porcellana.
Per una passeggiata in un parco, devi recarti al Jardin Public. Questo parco si trova ai margini della città e occupa 10 ettari. Sono stati creati giardini alla francese e all'inglese. Sempre ai margini della città si trova la rovina dell'Abbazia di St-Bertin.
