Diese Böden konnten sich aus einer großen Menge Material entwickeln, das in diesem Becken abgelagert wurde und nicht erodiert ist. Das Becken ist durch eine Reihe von Kalksteinblöcken vor erodierenden Flüssen geschützt. In dem Moment, in dem der Fluss durch den Kalksteinblock gelangt, entstehen tiefe Schluchten, wie die Schlucht zwischen Fournoi und Ermioni, bekannt als die Katafiki-Schlucht.
