Today, Mielen-boven-Aalst is a part of the municipality of Gingelom, Belgium, in the province of Limburg.
Until 1971 Mielen-boven-Aalst was an independent municipality with 750 inhabitants and after the merger of 1977 it became a part of Borlo in Droog Haspengouw.
The core of Mielen-boven-Aalst spreads out along both banks of the Melsterbeek and according to a north-south orientation.
The neo-Gothic St. Saturninus Church from around 1850 is located in the center of the village and has a late Gothic choir from the 16th century and 13th-century Mosan baptismal font.
