Grand-Bru derives its name from the street of the same name, Grand-Bru, which runs from the village to the nearby Villers-Sainte-Gertrude. Originally, Grand-Bru, along with Villers-Sainte-Gertrude and the hamlet of Vieux Fourneau, formed an autonomous municipality, but they merged with several surrounding municipalities in 1977 to form the municipality of Durbuy. In Grand-Bru, there are several houses and farms, alongside a large campsite.
