Mother Meuse (or Meuse in French) has its source in France at Pouilly-en-Bassigny on the Plateau of Langres. The river crosses the French Ardennes and Lorraine in a northerly direction and passes through the cities of Verdun and Sedan, from where it is navigable. In Givet, south of Dinant, it crosses the border with Belgium. The Meuse bends to the east at Namur (confluence with the Sambre) and reaches the largest urban concentration on its course via Andenne and Huy (Huy): Liège and its surroundings. Beyond this industrial area, the Meuse bends to the north to reach the Dutch border past Visé.
