In the 1400s, the region was
Leuven, a thriving wine culture
and vineyards certainly weren't
rarity. The following centuries
the wine culture fell into decline and disappeared
they almost completely in the second half of
the 16th century. Today, the
wine culture again a resurgence! Mead
by Paul and An, wine production in
the Leuven re-established.
In 1994 they started as a hobby with the
production of wine but soon knew
the company scales up and
the plantation was expanded to 60,000
grape vines!
Paul and An chose the grape variety
Chardonnay. A white grape variety that
produces a sparkling, soft wine.
Once the wine is bottled, it wears
the name Chardonnay Meerdael Brut.
The Chardonnay is for sale on the domain,
but also in various points of sale
in and around Leuven.
Paul and An also give up guided tours
the domain, where you are making wine
up close. In a group you become
then through the whole process from grape to wine
piloted. More information can be found on the
Website www.chardonnaymeerdael.be.
