Oombergen is a village in the Belgian province of East Flanders and a part of the city of Zottegem. The village is located in the Flemish Ardennes. The Castle of Oombergen used to be there. The name Oombergen comes from the Germanic hunu berga, loosely translated the honey-colored mountain. The lordship of Oombergen initially belonged to the family of Oyenberghe. Around 1530 the lordship was purchased by the Ghent Jan Damman. On 17 January 1645, descendant Kasper Damman was appointed viscount of Oombergen by Philip IV of Spain. Marc-Antoine de Preud'homme d'Hailly, who called himself Viscount of Nieuwpoort, married in second marriage Anne Damman, Viscountess of Oombergen. The De Preud'homme d'Hailly de Nieuport family remained in the possession of Oombergen until the French Period and son Albert.
