Like no other, the majestic Sint-Amandskerk (1489-1547) dominates the enormous market square in Gel. The decanal church is a beautiful example of Brabant Gothic and Kempen brick Gothic. In addition, it has a unique baroque interior, including an early 18th-century church organ, and an enormous treasure trove of religious artefacts.
A climb via narrow spiral stairs leads you to just below the bells of the Sint-Amandskerk. The almost 60-metre-high tower is literally the pinnacle of the Geelse markt and its surroundings. In the south façade of the hexagonal white stone tower, a monument was placed that commemorates the Boer War. At the end of the last century, the tower was completely restored. When the weather is nice, you can enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of Geel and its surroundings!
