Description

After holding out for two days near Greater Oosterzele, on Wednesday, May 22, 1940, the Belgian army retreated to the Leie and the drainage canal. As a result, Greater Oosterzele came under the authority of the German occupier. Several German regiments gathered here in Landskouter to march from there towards Vurste.

In the photo, you can see German soldiers near the current Aalmoezenijestraat in Landskouter. In the background, a burning house is visible.
