Kermt is a borough of the Belgian city of Hasselt. In 1971 Spalbeek was added to the municipality and in 1977 both Spalbeek and Kermt became part of Hasselt.
Kermt was first mentioned in 1213, as Kermete. The old spelling Kermpt was still used until the 20th century. The name could be derived from the Latin carmetum, which means hornbeam.
