Did you know that Leeuw was an exceptional area in the 4th century? This was a Saxon area with Saxon laws, in contrast to the dominance of the Franks surrounding it. The Saxons were more to the north, in the Netherlands and the North German Plain. The vast majority of the Saxons remained in present-day Germany and resisted the expanding Frankish Empire. The most striking difference between Saxon and Frankish law was the inheritance law, whereby it was not the eldest son but the youngest son who received the paternal inheritance among the Saxons.
