The Burreken is a protected nature reserve of 220 hectares, of which 33 ha are currently managed by Natuurpunt as a reserve. Numerous spring streams spring from the equally numerous springs and have cut deep into the landscape in the past. The vegetation in this heavily undulating forest area is the typical spring forest vegetation: black alder, common ash and hazel. Especially in spring the Burreken is spectacularly beautiful to visit. Then, among other things, the white of the forest anemone and the blue of the wild hyacinth provide a colorful carpet. The area is freely accessible on existing roads and marked trails.
