The Provincial Archaeological Museum of South-East Flanders in Velzeke shows in a didactic way life in South-East Flanders from prehistory to the Merovingian period. In the Gallo-Roman period, balegem sandstone was widely used for, among other things, wells, the ascending wallwork of houses and the columns and capital of the temple. A modern use of Balegem sandstone can be seen in the Roman garden, in the form of flagstones and benches. The sign at the entrance is also a large Balegem sandstone.
