In 'De Zwinduinen and -polders' there were quite a few minefields. In 1944, the occupiers spread landmines across the entire airfield, rendering it unusable. The minefield was given the codename '114 Odette 712'. There were approximately 12,000 mines. Most minefields were cleared during World War II by Allied forces, but a number of leftover mines later caused fatal accidents.
