The neo-Gothic church was designed by the Ghent architect Henri Vaerwyck. Along with the church, the church square and the presbytery were also built in the period 1903-1909. The interior was also built in the neo-Gothic style. During WWI, the church was not spared. A fire in the church destroyed part of the interior and the tower. The church was renovated by the Ghent architect Valentin Vaerwyck between 1923-1924.
