In the entrance portal under the tower, a memorial stone with the dates ‘9 et 10 julyt 1580’ commemorates the storming of the city by Olivier van de Tympel and the fact that the city escaped the Beeldenstorm. Beneath it lie 32 cannonballs that remind of the siege by Philips van Cleef. The stained glass window in the west wall of the tower depicts Saint Martin, the patron saint of the church. The tower is 71m high and contains a carillon with 54 bells weighing a total of 13 tons.
