The fish market was moved in 1745 to the Braamberg, a square between the Groene Rei and the Braambergstraat. Previously, the fish was sold at the Market. The marketplace was only covered in 1820-1821 with a neoclassical building, designed by city architect Jan-Robert Calloigne. A double colonnade of 126 Tuscan columns without bases encircles a rectangular inner courtyard. The higher entrance gate with a barrel vault forms the only interruption in the row of columns.
