The church was founded around 650 by Count Madelgar, who withdrew from worldly life. The current building dates mainly from the 10th and 11th centuries and is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Belgium. The church has two prominent towers that dominate the cityscape and symbolize the rich history of Zinnik.
Vincentius, the patron saint of the church, is also the patron saint of, among others, roofers, winemakers, and sailors.
