Since 1873, the Friart family has continued the production of various beers, among which is the St-Feuillien.
But the history of this beer goes back much further.
In the 7th century, an Irish monk named Feuillien came to the Continent to preach the Gospel. Alas, in 655, while passing through the charcoal forest in what is now the municipality of Roeulx, Feuillien was martyred and beheaded. At the site of his martyrdom, his disciples erected a chapel that would become, in 1125, an abbey of Premonstratensians: the Abbey of Saint-Feuillien of Roeulx.
Until the French Revolution, the abbey prospered. In those troubled days, it was condemned by the revolutionaries. For centuries, the monks brewed beer there, and this tradition has continued to this day.
Fourth generation of brewers for the Friart family, but still as much passion as know-how.
