Pierre Campion, wife Marielle Coenjaerts and Jimmy Halleux (two engineers and a designer) started this brewery in Marielle's family farm. Campion first followed two years of brewing course at the Hogeschool in Ghent before starting the construction of its own brewery. It was assembled with second-hand material, including old milk boilers. After the necessary permits were granted, brewing could start and in December 2009 the first beer La Trompeuse was launched. The brewery was named after Jean, a great-uncle of Coenjaarts who was the last resident of the farm before Pierre and Marielle settled there. He was a lonely figure with a grumpy character who was known in the region as Jean tout seul (lonely Jan).
