On the other side of the Rupel is the provincial green domain 'Broek De Naeyer'. This area of 66 ha used to be more of a landfill for industrial waste than a green area. Fortunately, the province of Antwerp has given nature here the opportunity to recover. The result is a beautiful mosaic of various biotopes with a rich fauna and flora. Many birds, dragonflies and butterflies find their place here and the beaver also returned after years of absence. In addition to the beaver, the otter, which was suspected to no longer occur in Flanders, has also been observed here several times since 2012.
From two birdwatching huts you can enjoy the lively nature in peace. This area is known for its scientific research on birds.
