Radermacher distillery is a Belgian distillery located in the German-speaking municipality of Raeren in the province of Liège. The distillery has existed since 1836, making it one of the oldest existing distilleries in Belgium. The distillery was founded in 1836 by farmer Peter Radermacher. [2] He then began to burn gin from his own wheat. The juniper berries needed for this came from the neighborhood. [3] Initially, firing was only a side activity to agriculture. Leonard Radermacher succeeded his father Peter.
During the First World War, the copper equipment was confiscated by the Germans, but afterwards the company started again. After Leonard's death, his four sons took over the company: they made gins and liqueurs and bottled purchased wine. During the Second World War, the company was shut down again by the Germans, but after the war the turnover increased sharply. In 1948, the company received official permission to burn. The associated farm was discontinued and Radermacher concentrated entirely on the distillery over the years.
Lambert Radermacher, the last of the four brothers, died in 1983. His wife took charge until she too died in 1990. Then grandson Bernard Zacharias took over the company. Source: Wikipedia
