The Chapel of Amelgem was assigned to Grimbergen Abbey by the bishop in 1155. Until 1247 Amelgem was still an independent parish with a court chapel and a beautiful domain. By a decision of the bishop, Amelgem became a subordinate church of Meise and was later brought to Oppem. The current building was built in baroque style, under abbot Outers in 1637. In 1830 the chapel was thoroughly restored. The chapel is currently out of use.
