The village of Wijer also has a Latin, or rather Roman, origin. In 1139 it was mentioned as Vilier, possibly a distortion of the Latin word villa. The castle of Wijer and the associated farm were built at the end of the 18th century. The church of St. Peter-in-Chains was built in 1824. Next to the church lies the grave of literary figure P.H. Creten, who was the pastor here between 1866 and 1881.
