INBEV - Hoegaarden

Beschrijving

Hoegaarden is a Belgian beer brand. The brand was marketed by Brouwerij De Kluis, located in Hoegaarden. This brewery was founded in 1966 by Pierre Celis; the wheat beer brewed here was initially called Oud Hoegaards. It is now a brand of Anheuser-Busch InBev.
Since 1985, the brand has been part of the Artois Brewery, which provided fresh capital after a fire hit the De Kluis brewery. After the acquisition, the recipe was changed to appeal to a larger audience and save on raw materials. In 2006, the Artois brewery, which had already been merged into what was then called InBev, decided to close the brewery and move production to Jupille. There was a lot of protest against this, because it would mean job cuts and the local tradition would be lost.

On October 6, 2006, the news came that the Hoegaarden beer will be brewed in the brewery in Hoegaarden even longer than planned. The brewers in Jupille (where Jupiler is also made) had not yet succeeded in obtaining the required quality, resulting in a too dark, sour beer. On 4 May 2007, it turned out that the problems were not over yet, and that they caused major supply problems for Hoegaarden wheat beer. For the first time in a long time, Hoegaarden was not available in some large Belgian and Dutch supermarkets. On September 10, 2007, it was announced that Hoegaarden would be brewed in Hoegaarden again. The brewery in Jupille has not succeeded in imitating the typical taste of Hoegaarden.

Malt, wheat, hops, water, coriander and dried orange peel are the ingredients. The beer is unfiltered and top-fermented. In addition, it is fermented in the bottle. The alcohol content is 4.9%. It is a fresh beer and an excellent thirst quencher. It also has a characteristic taste. There is also a specific way to pour, which can be found on the back of a bottle with a silver label. The glass must first be rinsed or left in the ice for a while, then you have to pour out half of the bottle, loosen the yeast veil by turning the bottle 'sixteen times' and then pour out the rest. The excess foam can be removed. In a café, for a 25cl Hoegaarden, you get a typical blocky Hoegaarden glass. With a 50cl, this is the same glass in a large size. Source: Wikipedia
