The Albert Canal connects the port of Antwerp with Liège, via cities such as Herentals, Geel, Hasselt and Genk. It also links the Scheldt and Maas Rivers and plays an important role in inland shipping and the city’s drinking water supply. The latter is especially evident at the drinking water production facility of utility company water-link in Oelegem.
