"Spletterenbrug" over the Moervaart in Daknam. A name like a clock, but also an idyllic spot in full nature. With a little imagination you can see and hear in your mind the last steam train, loaded with sugar beets, thundering over the tracks. Since 1867, steam trains have passed here on the Aalst-Lokeren-Zelzate line for 100 years. The bridge was blown up twice by retreating armies. In 1918 by the Germans and in 1940 by the Belgian army. The bridge, repaired by the occupying forces after 1940, has remained unchanged until today, except for a few paintings, The name Spletteren refers to the old name of the surrounding fields.
