The Castle of Tervuren was the place of residence and one of the most important castles of the Dukes of Brabant between the 12th and 18th centuries. It was built around 1190 under Henry I, Duke of Brabant, and marked the landscape of Tervuren for six centuries, before being destroyed by order of Emperor Joseph in November 1781.
To this day, only ruins of the foundations on the bank of the pond remain, as well as the Saint-Hubert Chapel, originally a contemporary wooden building of the castle, replaced by the current one stone building in the 17th century.
