In the middle of the east side of the Martelarenplein in Leuven is the Peace Monument, a monument in memory of the war victims of the First World War. This obelisk dates from 1925, but was destroyed by the German occupiers during the Second World War in 1940. In 2004, the city of Leuven restored the Peace Monument.
Martelarenplein is the square in front of Leuven train station in the Belgian city of Leuven. It is one of the largest open squares in the city, next to Ladeuzeplein and Oude Markt, and is regularly used for large and smaller events.
